Flighty Friday

And yet again, the weekend is upon us.

And a bank holiday weekend, an extra long one for many. Are you off anywhere nice?

Funny we should mention traveling (ahem … segue alert) … Charlotte’s interview on Wednesday got us dreaming of long train journeys, staring out of the window, following unknown landscapes, conjuring stories and letting your mind wander far away from reality.

What is the most essential element of an enjoyable journey?trai

Why music of course …

Simply click on the play button and have a listen. We’ve got ten tracks from artists like Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, The Band, Ryan Adams … Turn it up, turn it up loud.

We were also looking at art surrounding travel and maps. We found some wonderful pieces of work.

Firstly, we came across the remarkable creations of Matthew Cusick

Using the most rudimentary tools, Cusick reconfigures entire networks of roads, rivers and municipal transit systems to create intricate artworks that look like paintings and drawings, if looked at from afar.”

Aren’t they simply wonderful? Please do visit his site for more info and further collections.

We also found some really fun and pretty artwork out there using maps that we just couldn’t help fall in love with. People are so clever.

So wherever this weekend takes you, make sure to explore. And remember too that you may not need to take a train or plane to go on an adventure. How about choosing the road less traveled in your heart or mind? You might end up somewhere interesting …

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain
