Tell A New Story

Hello all. Well, here we are at the beginning of a brand new week, all the possibilities ahead of us.

I haven’t read this book, but liked the idea. It some how opens up all the options and makes them within reach and achievable.

Creating a Brand New You

By Simon Middleton, author of Brand New You

Too many people get stuck thinking that life has dealt them their cards and there is nothing they can do to change their job, their business, even their relationships. Far too many people give up their dreams quietly and slowly.

Often the issue lies in the image we have of ourselves and as a consequence the image or ‘brand’ that we project to the outside world.

When we think of the term ‘brand’ we tend to think of products and companies. But the concept of branding can be very useful to any of us as individuals: because a brand is really just a short-hand term for a collection of meanings. And just as a company can create meanings for its products which make us respond to them in a positive way, so we can develop new ‘brand’ meaning for ourselves.

Another way to think about it is to look at branding as a kind of storytelling. It is deeply rooted in our human nature to respond to stories. We learn through stories. We develop our world view through stories. And we can shape our own lives by shaping and crafting the stories that we tell about ourselves.

The process begins by deciding on a ‘strategy’. This is a crucial step and the one that those of us who feel stuck in a rut find it so difficult to take.

A strategy isn’t complex or even difficult to develop: it simply means making a clear decision about what you want to achieve.

A strategy is a statement that is big and bold enough to have real meaning and impact on your life, but it doesn’t have to be filled with detail.

From that simple but bold strategic vision about a new you, and the new story that you begin to tell yourself and others, comes a new intent and a new clarity about the steps you need to take in order to bring dreams to life.

Of course there is hard work to do along the way, but the whole point of my approach is that these things lie in our hands.

In a very real way our lives are the stories that we tell ourselves. If you want to change your life, you have to start to tell a new story.

What might your story be this week?
