Enthusiasm

Welcome to a brand new week, a fresh start, a chance to reassess and then, get stuck right in.

The following extract is from Danielle LaPorte‘s new book The Fire Starter Sessions, which one half of H&P is currently exploring. (So far, so very good.) We thought we would share some of her notes on the concept of enthusiam.

en·thu·si·asm (n-thz-zm)

1. Great excitement for or interest in a subject or cause.

2. A source or cause of great excitement or interest.

Whenever there is enthusiasm, there is a creative empowerment that goes far beyond what a mere person is capable of.”

Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth

“The word enthusiasm come from the Greek root entheos, “having the god within”. Eckhart Tolle suggests that enthusiasm is the highest form of “awakened doing”. Eckhart outlines three modalities of awakened doing: acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm.

Acceptance means being in the situation and doing what must be done willingly.

Enjoyment happens when you are fully present and not just doing what you’re doing as a means to an end. It’s not what you do, but how you do it.

Enthusiasm means that there is a deep enjoyment in  what you do, plus a goal or a vision you’re working toward.

Enthusiasm knows where it’s going.

Of course, you can’t be in a continual state of enthusiasm. You’d fry, fall, and lose your grounding. But before you commit, sign, take the stage, take the meeting, take the gig, or take your place in the intentional unfolding of your life, enthusiasm must be present.”

Well then, what are your thoughts on that?

As LaPorte says herself – “so…simple. So obviously essential to whole living”

Take this with you today and mull it over.
